2.2 IPC J-STD-001 with Space Addendum Certified IPC Specialist (CIS)

OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS FOR SOLDERED ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLIES WITH OPTIONAL MODULE 6: SPACE HARDWARE ADDENDUM

The purpose of this course is to assist the electronic manufacturer in the production of high quality products at the lowest possible cost by providing a greater understanding of the soldering and assembly processes through “standard” training.

This course assumes that the students know some of the basic concepts and materials associated with hand soldering. If students have not previously preformed soldering activities then additional training will be necessary prior to attending this course. Blackfox recommends our applicable soldering series modules for remedial study.

COURSE STRUCTURE:

Module 1 – (Mandatory) 1 day

Overview of J-STD-001 requirements and general requirements.

Module 2 – (optional) 1 day

Study of the J-STD requirements applicable to the assembly and soldering of Wires and Terminals, and practical exercises for development and demonstration of soldering skills.

Module 3 – (optional) 1 day

Study of the J-STD requirements applicable to the assembly and soldering of Through Hole connections, and practical exercises for development and demonstration of soldering skills.

Module 4 – (optional) 1 day

Study of the J-STD requirements applicable to the assembly and soldering of Surface Mount components, and practical exercises for development and demonstration of soldering skills.

Module 5 – (optional) 1 day

Study of the theory and application of Inspection Techniques required by the J-STD, and a practical exercise to develop and demonstrate inspection skills.

Module 6 – (optional) 4 hours

Study of the Space Hardware addendum which provides additional requirements over those issued in J-STD for those products that must survive the vibration and thermal cyclic environments of getting to and operating in space.

This is not a stand alone module. It must be taught in conjunction with at least one other optional module, and a score of 80% or better must be achieved for this module.

WHAT THE “LEARNER” RECEIVES:

  • ANSI J-STD-001 Manual
  • Space Hardware Addendum
  • Applicable soldering kit(s)
  • IPC “Application Specialist” (CIS) Certificate

Students will receive IPC “Application Specialist” certificate with an overall score of 70% or better, on classroom written exams, except Module 6, and an overall score of 70% or better on soldering demonstrations.
